Remembering the Ancient Energy of Alkebulan

For many people, the word Reiki brings to mind a gentle form of Japanese energy healing — the laying of hands, quiet breathing, and the flow of universal life force energy. Yet long before Reiki was introduced to the world through Japan in the early 1900s, the people of Kemet, within the land known as Alkebulan — the original name for Africa — had already mastered the art of channeling divine energy for healing, balance, and spiritual awakening.

Kemetic Reiki is not a new system; it is a return. It is a remembering of the original energy medicine that our ancestors practiced long before modern language gave it a name.

The Ancient Science of Energy in Kemet

In the temples of Kemet, healing was considered sacred work — a divine responsibility. Priests and priestesses were trained in the spiritual sciences of heka (words of power), sekhem (vital life force energy), and sa (protection through energy and symbols). These practitioners were healers, spiritual doctors, and energy workers who understood that all dis-ease begins in the energetic and spiritual body before showing up in the physical.

The word Sekhem itself means “power” or “energy.” It describes the same universal life force that the Japanese word Reiki represents. In Kemet, this energy was drawn from Ra — the sun, the source of all light, warmth, and vitality — and directed through the hands, the breath, and the voice. Healing took place through vibration, sacred symbols, aromatherapy, sound, and touch.

Every temple was a place of initiation and renewal. Before entering, seekers would fast, cleanse, and align with Ma’at — the principle of divine truth, justice, balance, and order. Healing was not just about the body; it was about restoring harmony within the spirit and returning to oneness with the Creator.

Reclaiming Kemetic Reiki in the Modern World

Over thousands of years, as colonization and cultural disruption spread across the world, much of the ancient wisdom from Alkebulan was hidden, rewritten, or forgotten. The sacred sciences of Kemet were translated through different cultures and languages, emerging later as systems like Reiki, Qi Gong, and Pranic Healing.

In recent decades, African spiritual scholars and healers — such as those from Ra Sekhi Arts Temple — have restored these teachings and reintroduced Kemetic Reiki as a way to reconnect with our ancestral roots. Through study, practice, and divine guidance, they have remembered the original ways that energy was understood and honored in Africa.

This remembrance is more than historical. It is spiritual reclamation — a return to the source.

The Purpose of Kemetic Reiki

The purpose of Kemetic Reiki is to help us reconnect to the divine energy that flows through all creation. It is the act of tuning ourselves to Ra, the Creator, so that we may restore harmony within our bodies, minds, and spirits.

Through the practice of Kemetic Reiki, we:

Release energetic blockages that cause physical or emotional dis-ease.

Cleanse and strengthen the aura, restoring vitality and balance.

Align with Ma’at, the cosmic order that governs peace, clarity, and right living.

Reconnect with our ancestors, remembering that we are never alone in our healing journey.

Empower our communities by bringing ancient knowledge back into the hands of the people.

This work reminds us that healing is not something we seek outside of ourselves. It is something we activate within. The healer does not give energy — they awaken what is already divine inside you.

How Kemetic Reiki Differs from Traditional Reiki

While both Kemetic Reiki and Japanese Reiki work with universal life force energy, the roots, symbols, and spiritual framework are different.

In Kemetic Reiki:

The Neteru — the divine forces or deities such as Ausar, Auset, Ra, Het-Heru, and Tehuti — represent specific aspects of divine energy we can call upon during healing.

The language of Medu Neter (hieroglyphs) and heka (words of power) are often used as sacred sound vibrations to open energy channels.

Ma’at serves as the foundation, reminding us that healing and righteousness are one and the same.

Cleansing rituals, breathwork, affirmations, and movement (such as Kemetic Yoga) are often combined to activate the life force fully.

Kemetic Reiki brings a deeper sense of ancestral and spiritual connection. It calls us to remember that energy healing did not begin with any one culture or time — it is the birthright of all creation, first understood by the ancient people of Alkebulan.

A Call to Remember

To walk the path of Kemetic Reiki is to answer the call of remembrance — to return to the wisdom that lived in our DNA long before we were born. It is to remember that healing is our natural state, that we are extensions of divine energy, and that the power of Ra flows through every breath we take.

When we lay hands in love, speak words in truth, and live in alignment with Ma’at, we are practicing the oldest form of Reiki — the original African energy science that connected heaven and earth through the human spirit.

May we all remember.

May we all heal.

May we all live in truth, balance, and harmony.

“I am a vessel of divine light. I am a channel of sacred energy. I am one with Ra.”
